Before you install, you probably want to know
Why does it need a system extension?
Routing by process has to happen at the system network layer, and macOS offers exactly one way to do it: a Network Extension. Without it the only lever left is the system-wide proxy — which is the all-or-nothing behaviour you are trying to escape. You approve it once, in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
What will macOS show me?
On first launch macOS asks you to allow a system extension, and shows a "ProxyRouter would like to filter network content" prompt. This is the standard flow for every per-process routing tool, Proxifier and Little Snitch included. Because the build is notarized by Apple, you will not see an "unidentified developer" warning.
What can the extension actually see?
The destination, port and originating process of each connection — exactly the facts needed to choose a route. Rule evaluation, connection traces and traffic content stay on your Mac and are never uploaded, and no server of ours takes part in your connections.
Is it signed and notarized? Can I check?
Yes — signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate (Mei Yang, Team ID MLBB37VST8) and notarized by Apple. After downloading, run spctl -a -vvv -t install ~/Downloads/ProxyRouter.dmg in Terminal; it should print accepted and Notarized Developer ID.
How do I uninstall it completely?
Click "Remove system extension" in ProxyRouter's settings, then drag the app to the Trash. Your network settings return to what they were and no background daemon is left behind.
Will it conflict with Clash, Surge, a VPN or Little Snitch?
They coexist. The most common setup is to use a local client such as Clash as ProxyRouter's upstream. The one thing to avoid is running two full transparent proxies at once — keep the other tool in "local port" mode. Little Snitch is a filtering extension and runs alongside fine.
Why isn't this on the App Store?
The App Store sandbox does not allow the network-extension capability that per-process routing needs, so this build is distributed directly under a Developer ID and updates itself in-app through Sparkle, with every update signature-checked before it is applied.
Do I need anything else?
Yes — your own SOCKS5 or HTTP upstream. That can be a corporate proxy, a staging gateway, or a client running on your own Mac (for example 127.0.0.1:7890). ProxyRouter does not provide or resell proxy servers; it decides which application uses which endpoint.
After you buy
Sign in inside the app with your purchase email and the license downloads and activates automatically; you can also copy the license file from your account page. When a trial or subscription ends, only proxying stops — your config is never touched.
